A glossy-coated, bright-eyed little mare stands in the corner of the yard, on her best behaviour. But, as you look a little closer, you see that she is very quietly un-doing the knot with her teeth. Then, she looks round and slowly threads the rope out. Taking a long look round, she sets off towards the feed room in a determined manner. But a human sees her and comes out to start telling her off. Drat !!! Foiled again !!! But there always is a next time....
Dancer is a very mischeviuos little pony, who is an escape artist. She can jump out of her field, get through partitions in trailers and horseboxes, do stable bolts and most fastenings on gates, but her speciality is untying herself, and she is murder to watch at shows where she has an audience if she escapes. Round the yard she has even earned herself the nickname 'Houdini'. Dancer has an absolutely huge jump, and she is a fantastic show jumper. Whatever you have the guts to point her at, you're at the other side. In a jump-off she is almost certain to win if her rider has the guts to sit her out. Mid-air turns, swinging round, just clearing the jumps by a cm, all at full-pelt gallop. Hey, it's great fun (for her) at least she has found a rider with as many guts (and as little sense) as her, and they are a perfect team. I bought Dancer from a home in East Sussex where she was a first pony, but the young girl wasn't experienced enough to ride her (she has a hell of a buck in her if she doesn't get her own way) Also, she kept on getting into another field and harassing the sheep (which the farmer wasn't very pleased about) I really did have to take on a bundle of mischief when I bought her, but I've never regretted it. |
