This is the stallion that made me introduce the highland breed to Woodcroft' breeding programme. At the time, I had very few native ponies and then I saw a highland stallion (Basil) when he was owned by Lori B. in the auction house for breeding. I had a new highland mare in minutes and a breeding between te only two highlands in EF by the week. A succesfull foal, Woodcoft Rosemary was born 3 months later and is the perfect example of the breed.
Bas is a great all-rounder. He is a ride/drive and he has been known to help make hay by pulling a hay cart with, umm... I think it was Tuesday. Needless to say, they did great. He is also a good comfortable ride and has been out hunting at the end of last season. He is unshown as I got him when EF was re-starting, but this stallion has a lot to give, potential in the show ring, potential as a sire and maybe most importantly, potential to be the stallion who introduces the highland breed to EF. At home, Bas is a great boy to be with. He is very strongly built and ever so slightly clumsy like he doesn't know his own strength. He will stand on someone's foot accidently and then look shocked when they scream as if to say 'did I do that ???'. He is also a great fan of his food and after he has finished eating, he sometimes has this cheeky habit of throwing his bucket (it's rubber thankfully) out of the stable door. He is also a very messy eater and one time we had him all neatly plaited, bathed etc for a hunt and when we got there we found he had dribbled grass all down his front... believe me, Bas is a difficult horse to keep clean *g*
